The first days mostly consisted of sleeping and sweating, in no particular order. the weather is unusually cold for the time of year but for someone from sweden that is hardly any comfort. 3 days on, I must say that I have mostly gotten used to it by now. I live in Pudong, which is the newly developed area with all the high rises. As China is a country of paradoxes and vast differences; the standards vary wildly. Shabby housing complexes in the shadow of the towering high rises is common sight.
I have met some really nice people here and gotten some tips on where to look for apt and work. I spend most of the days alone searching on the internet. This is a bit challenging since I have to go to cafés for their wireless internet access. Burger King works too.
Another challenge is to reinvigorate my Chinese. Being away from China most of the time, I really need a month or two to get into the language again. Also, working is a whole other thing than merely traveling. This will be one of the main challenges which I also look forward to.
Coffee Chain called Wagas where I am currently surfing the web.
